Man Fatally Shot by New Braunfels Police After Alleged Knife Attack

Incident at Sage Apartments Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting

On Saturday afternoon, a tragic incident unfolded at the Sage Apartments in New Braunfels, Texas, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man from Spring, Texas.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., officers from the New Braunfels Police Department responded to reports of a disturbance between a man and a woman at the apartment complex located in the 2500 block of West San Antonio Street.

Upon arrival, two officers engaged with both individuals involved in the reported disturbance.

During this interaction, the man allegedly brandished a sharp weapon and advanced toward the officers.

In response to the perceived threat, both officers discharged their service weapons, striking the man.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts by additional responding officers and paramedics from the New Braunfels Fire Department, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have withheld the man's identity pending notification of next of kin.

Notably, no injuries were reported among the officers or other civilians present during the incident.

The two officers involved, who collectively have four years of service with the department, have been placed on administrative leave.

This action aligns with standard protocol and allows for thorough investigations by both the New Braunfels Police Department and the Texas Rangers.

As the community grapples with this event, it's essential to recognize the broader context of New Braunfels' ongoing developments.

For instance, the historic 96-year-old former City Hall building on Seguin Avenue is undergoing a transformation into the Old City Hall Restaurant and Bar.

Set to open by the end of 2025, this upscale neighborhood restaurant aims to enhance the local dining scene and contribute positively to the community's vibrancy.

While the city continues to evolve and grow, incidents like the recent officer-involved shooting serve as stark reminders of the challenges faced by law enforcement and the importance of community engagement and dialogue.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in local events and discussions to foster a safer and more connected community.

As investigations proceed, further details will be released to the public.

Community members seeking more information or wishing to express concerns are advised to contact the New Braunfels Police Department directly.

In the meantime, the city remains committed to transparency and the well-being of all its residents.
