New Braunfels has reopened public access to the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers after temporary closures caused by heavy rainfall and rising water levels.

Located beneath Gruene’s iconic water tower and nestled in the ruins of an 1878 cotton gin, the Gristmill offers diners a true taste of Texas charm.

Overlooking the Guadalupe River, this local favorite blends rich history with rustic beauty and hearty Southern fare.

With nearly 50 years of memorable meals, it’s more than a restaurant it’s a Hill Country institution.

A fatal confrontation unfolded Saturday afternoon at Sage Apartments in New Braunfels, leaving a 33-year-old Spring, Texas man dead.

 

Police responded around 4:15 p.m. to a reported disturbance between a man and a woman on West San Antonio Street.

 

As officers arrived and engaged both individuals, the man allegedly drew a sharp weapon and advanced toward them.

 

Both officers fired their service weapons, striking the man.

 

Despite prompt medical aid from police and New Braunfels Fire Department paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

No officers or other civilians were hurt in the incident.

 

The two officers, with a combined four years of service, are on administrative leave as investigations by New Braunfels Police and the Texas Rangers continue.

 

The community is urged to stay engaged and informed as New Braunfels works through these challenging events.
